Not all divorce cases are easy, and in many situations a divorce can be downright ugly between spouses. High conflict divorces in Florida are never ideal, but there are ways to manage the situation in order to minimize the contact and contention between spouses and other loved ones. At our office, our highly dedicated legal team is prepared to zealously advocate for your legal needs during a high conflict divorce. Minimize Contact

The best thing to do in a high conflict divorce is to minimize contact with your spouse during divorce proceedings. Let the communication between parties flow through the attorneys, and do not reach out to your spouse by phone, email, text, or social media unless absolutely necessary. In situations where no children are involved, you should try to avoid communication with your spouse as much as possible during the proceedings.

Keep Your Feelings to Yourself

As difficult as it may be, you should also try to keep your feelings to yourself about your spouse and the divorce while the case is ongoing. Do not vent on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or other means of communication to others about how you feel being involved in a high conflict divorce. Anything written or spoken to others can be used as evidence against you in a high conflict case, so if you must vent your feelings about the divorce it is best to do so in therapy or other situations where confidentiality applies.

Strictly Adhere to the Parenting Plan

If children are involved in a high conflict divorce, it is important that you strictly adhere to the parenting plan during and after the divorce settlement. It is commonplace in high conflict cases to use deviations in a parenting plan against the other parent or as evidence to modify the existing parenting plan more in their favor. Some former spouses simply want to engage in hostile communication with the other parent and will use any request to deviate from the parenting plan as an excuse to fight. This is why it is critically important to have an experienced divorce attorney by your side when creating a parenting plan to anticipate everything unique to your family situation and incorporate it into the plan from the beginning.

Be Prepared for the Worst

Finally, you should be prepared for the worst at every step in a high conflict divorce. Expect a fight when it comes to the property distribution, alimony, child custody, and child support. Be prepared with full documentation and evidence to present to the court as to why it should find in your favor on the issues. Keep a record of all slanderous, abusive, or contentious communication from your former spouse and give nothing that can be used against you in return. Have an honest conversation with your lawyer about what is most important to you in the divorce and what you are willing to let go of in order to facilitate the most expedient case.
